STATUS/NON-STATUS - (Guelph, ON):
Set time: 11:10pm - 12:00am
Status/Non-Status is the new name for the ongoing musical work of Anishinaabe community worker Adam Sturgeon (Nme’) and his longtime collaborators (fka Whoop-Szo). The band spent a decade carving a path through Canada’s DIY scene before leveling up thanks to 2019’s acclaimed long player Warrior Down (You’ve Changed Records). This album confronted Sturgeon’s complex family history and identity and was long listed for the Polaris Music Prize among numerous other accolades. Today, the band emerges renewed, with more stories to share …Thunderous and ground-breaking, harmonious and generative—a Status/Non-Status show envelops audiences in an emotional weather-storm that dances conscientiously between anger and discipline, frustration and hope.
ZOON - (Hamilton, ON):
Set time: 10:10pm - 10:50pm
In the Ojibway language, the word Zoongide’ewin means “bravery, courage, the Bear Spirit.” It’s no wonder then that Daniel Monkman adopted Zoon as his musical moniker. The Hamilton-based musician has spent the better part of his 28 years channeling that strength to overcome such adversities as racism, poverty and addiction. Bleached Wavves is the first true document of what has been
dubbed “moccasin-gaze,” a tongue-in-cheek nickname for the amalgamation
of his shoegaze influences with traditional First Nations music.
GOOD FORTUNE - (Kingston/Toronto, ON):
Set time: 9:20pm - 9:50pm
Good Fortune, the brainchild of
Kingston/Toronto songwriter, musician and visual artist Kelsey McNulty, creates a
cinematic collage of sound both new and old. With an affection for the ‘60s French
pop of Francoise Hardy and Serge Gainsbourg, to space pop revivalists
like Broadcast and Air – McNulty delivers her intimate and sultry vocals
stylings (in both English and French) over intentional layers of dreamy
synth, surf guitar, and an airtight rhythm section.
FASTFAST - (Kingston, ON):
Set time: 8:30pm - 9:00pm
FASTFAST is a brain melting experimental alt pop project from British Canadian TV and video game composer James Mulvale. With sun drenched harmonies, vertigo inducing microtonal chord changes and heartfelt lyrics, FASTFAST will leave your feeling like you ate all the mushrooms with just a pair of headphones.
